Each month at Belton Art Gallery follows a predictable, repeating pattern for art classes taught by Marcia Miller, certified art teacher, retired. For a specific detail of the lesson to be taught, see our facebook newsletter “A Minute with Marcia”. Note, there are sometimes exceptions to the pattern such as days we might be closed. You must call or text to sign up for a class. 816-585-4644. Classes are small with plenty of attention and help as needed.
On the first Saturday of the month, Marcia teaches a watercolor painting lesson. The class is two hours (10:00 – 12:00) and costs $20.00. Subjects to be painted vary according to the season, with input from returning students. Age 11 and up are welcome. Beginners and experts sit side by side, and everyone learns from each other. Marcia provides all the materials needed with plenty of individual attention.
Classes on subsequent Saturdays follow a similar format. On the second Saturday in each month, there is a drawing lesson. On the third, acrylic painting. Students are requested to bring in their own canvas for that one.
On the fourth Saturday each month, the lesson is working with moist clay which is glazed, allowed to dry, fired, and returned to the student. Clay class is $30.00. Students can pick up their projects in approximately three weeks. Once in a while, crafts will be substituted for clay when appropriate. Please note that on the occasion of there being five Saturdays in the month, no art lesson is offered on the fifth Saturday, unless otherwise stated.
During each lesson, Marcia uses her knowledge and skill in art to bring out the best in her students, helping only as needed. She also uses her many years of experience as a teacher to make sure students are comfortable as they gain confidence and experience success.
